It’s hard enough to promote a book and hope it gets noticed and read even in the best of times. COVID-19 has presented any author with a 2020 release plenty of challenges since we can’t get out to do traditional readings. I miss those and the interaction.
However, I got some exciting news over the weekend. Galvanized: They Odyssey of a Reluctant Carolina Confederate has been nominated for the Ragan Old North State Award for Nonfiction.
This award is given by the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association, a group that has promoted and supported writing, writers, and historians in North Carolina for over 100 years.
The first time I attended an NCLHA event, I had such a great time. And the day was capped by the awards banquet and I’ll admit that part of me hoped that night that one day I’d have something in the mix. I am pretty excited that it’s come to pass.
The winner will be named next month, but as the athletes like to say in the big games, I’m just happy to be here. Being on the list with other fine books from good writers in this “writingest state” is quite an honor and I will savor it.
You can see the nominees on the NCLHA web page here.
Congratulations, Michael. Pulling for you!
Thanks, Charles!
