Orwell is one of my favorite writers. He led a short, but fascinating life, and was quite a complex character.
I’d never read the story about his escape from Spain, or that the Communists there had him on a hit list.

I, too, was a big fan on Orwell (Eric Blair) when I was a kid and read almost everything he ever wrote except a few essays. “Keep the Aspidistra Flying” was always a favorite because it was early and gave more than a hint of where he was heading.
A good read, indeed!
