There are several North Carolina Humanities Council programs coming to the area during the second half of 2019 and I’m proud to be a part of two of the sessions.
On August 27 at 5:30 p.m., I’ll be presenting a program about Nothing Like It in the World: The Men Who Built the Transcontinental Railroad, a great book by Stephen Ambrose. The program will be at Braswell Memorial Library in Rocky Mount, and is of course, free. This is from the series “Picturing America: Making Tracks” and there are other sessions you can find out about here.
On September 26, I’ll be presenting a program about If You Want Me to Stay, a novel by North Carolina author Michael Parker. This program will be at the Wilson County Public Library and starts at 6:30 p.m. It is also free. The novel is part of the series “Altered Landscapes: North Carolina’s Changing World” and there are other sessions you can find out about here.
You can check out a copy of the book(s) at the libraries ahead of time, or just show up and participate.
I’ve been doing these for about a year, and they are a lot of fun and involve the audience in a discussion of the books. Last year, I did presentations on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and Richard Russo’s Empire Falls.
I’d love to meet and talk with you about one of my very favorite things: reading.
