Both of my paternal grandparents passed away before I made it to my teens. I was not close to them.
My grandmother was born in 1891, and I was most fascinated by all of the history she experienced in her lifetime. After all, she predated flight by more than a decade and almost made it to the space shuttle era.
I wrote about them in a chapter of my back entitled “Rationed.” It was about their World War II ration books, which I still have. I also have one of their checkbooks I found, with the last entry coming in 1938.
I recently wrote an essay about this and them (part of a larger forthcoming project) and it has been published in The Parhelion Review.
The link to the piece is below. As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks for sharing Mike.
